FOR LOVE OF WEATHER, ART, AND NATURE

I am a broadcast meteorologist and photographer based in Tulsa, OK. As a young kid growing up in rural southern Indiana, I vividly remember watching storms from my bedroom window with dreams of chasing the giants on the Great Plains. Along with weather, I developed a love and talent for art, earning a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA. I pursued art after high school, but I eventually realized a need to pursue my passion for weather as well. Four years after graduating from SCAD with a BFA in Computer Art, I was living in Fort Lauderdale. I took a chance, deciding to leave sunny Florida by enrolling at Valparaiso University to study Broadcast Meteorology.

As fate would have it, my broadcast meteorologist career brought me to Tornado Alley in the summer of 2005. First, working in Denison, TX covering and forecasting the weather for southern Oklahoma and north Texas, and then in Tulsa, OK, where I have been since 2008. I have been fortunate to call the Great Plains home while living a childhood dream.

In my meteorology career, I have been blessed. I am a three-time regional Emmy Award winner, and our station even won the National Murrow Award for Best Newscast in the country for a mid-market for our OKC/Newcastle/Moore tornado coverage in 2013. One of the highest honors in our profession. In a field that can be cut-throat and unfriendly, I have been able to find my niche in a challenging and exciting weather market.

Through my early years of chasing storms, I used cheap, low-quality cameras. I may have snapped a few pictures here or there, but I would mostly drive while my chase partner(s) shot video and pictures. I wasn't thinking as an artist when it came to storm chasing...failing to capture the essence of the most powerful storms on earth. Very few get to witness nature's fury first-hand, and I realized I must step up my artistic and photography game. Combining my passions for weather, art, and nature through a camera lens is an absolute no-brainer. In the process photographing storms with an artistic eye, I have rediscovered my creative self. If there are no storms to chase, I am happy capturing the endless heavens of the night sky and majestic landscapes.

My goal is to share the stunning beauty of our Earth, specializing in weather and landscape photography. That said, I have my camera ready for any occasion. Where we live can be a frightening world, but there is beauty to be found, and beauty to be captured. I am incredibly thankful for the support of my family and friends on this non-traditional endeavor. Thank you for allowing me to share my passion with you as well.
